4 Steps to a better neck
Neck pain can really be a drag, but there are things you can do to feel better. At Coffs Total Chiropractic, we take a whole-person approach to help you shake off nagging neck pain. Here’s the 4 steps to a better neck:
1. Keep Moving: A Stiff Neck is a Painful Neck
It might feel natural to avoid moving your neck much when it hurts, but keeping it still can actually make the it worse.
Key to reducing pain and improving movement is the adjustment. Once aligned better, the vertebrae can bend and rotate more freely. Inflammation is also decreased which then improves movement more and reduces pain.
Once we see movement is improved, we’ll show you some easy, gentle exercises to help keep your neck moving.
This isn’t about pushing through pain; it’s about helping your neck regain its groove without making things worse.
2. Build Strength: A Weak Neck is a Stiff Neck
If your neck is weak, your brain won’t be able to move the joints through a full range of movement.
It’s also more prone to getting stiff or hurt.
We focus on simple exercises to strengthen the muscles around your neck. No need for heavy weights or tough gym sessions—just practical exercises that you can do at home.
3. Fix Your Posture: Poor Alignment Equals a Weak Neck
Ever caught yourself slouching or constantly looking down at your phone? That can really strain your neck.
When you visit, we’ll take a look at your posture and show you easy tweaks to keep your neck happy. Things like adjusting your computer screen, supporting your spine while sitting, and being mindful about your posture during the day can make a huge difference.
A little bit of training to help your spine balance itself will do wonders too. The Neck Roll or Foam roller may be suitable to help you.
4. Sleep Right: It’s Key to Recovery
Healing doesn’t just happen when you’re awake; your body does a lot of its repair work while you’re asleep.
Not getting enough sleep or sleeping in a bad position can slow down your recovery. We’ll chat about how you sleep and maybe suggest different pillows or positions to help your neck heal at night.
Proper rest is super important—it helps your body mend itself and keeps further pain at bay.
In Summary:
We combine these approaches—movement, strengthening, good posture, and better sleep—to not just manage your neck pain, but really help you recover from it. We’re here to support you on your journey back to a pain-free life.
